BECCLES & DISTRICT KART CLUB
CLUB MEETING 26th November 2005
The eighth round of the 2005 Summer Championships was held at Ellough on 26th November.
COMER / WTP CADET
Cold and wet conditions all day, but still a good turnout of cadet karts for their final race of the year. Sam Blake gaining a clear advantage by starting from pole after three heat wins, as visibility would be a big factor in the race. Three second places earlier in the day put Michael Headland on the front row of the grid beside Sam. A good start from the green light with everybody safely round the first corner saw Sam and Michael making their intentions clear, pull out a lead and keep out of the spray. Oliver Hindle and Jake Wenham a few metres behind competing for third place. Within two laps the field had spread out over the length of the track with Sam maintaining a comfortable gap over Michael, and Oliver gaining a five metre gap to Jake. Over the next ten laps, Jake clawed his way back to Oliver, overtaking him on lap twelve for third place. At the flag, a well deserved win for Sam Blake, ahead of Michael Headland in 2nd. Coming home in 3rd was Jake Wenham followed by Oliver Hindle in 4th. Craig Pollard in 5th place, with Teddie Harvey in 6th. Harry Bush collecting the 1st restricted driver trophy.
HONDA CADET
A win for Lewis Bond in the Honda cadet class seeing off the early challenge from Jake Mayes in the first half of the race. With Jake pulling out on lap nine, Lewis was presented with the win. Jakes driving skills earlier in the day were rewarded with the marshal’s driver of the day trophy.
MINI-MAX
With two heat wins and a second place, Tom Griffiths starting on pole led away from the green lights, Curtis Ayres dropping into second place ahead of George Foster in third. Once again, the advantage of being in the lead thus avoiding the surface water spray soon began to show, Tom quickly pulling out a comfortable lead over the chasing group. Karl Cocca eventually getting the better of George on lap eight for third place. At the finish flag, a well deserved win for Tom Griffiths over Curtis Ayres in 2nd. Finishing in 3rd place was Karl Cocca with George Foster in 4th overall and as 1st restricted driver. Simon Harris coming home in 5th place.
JUNIOR TKM
Lee Waters took the win in this class.
JUNIOR ROTAX MAX
The race started well for pole sitter Nicholas Wones, keeping the lead round the first corner before drifting wide on the exit allowing Daniel Fisher through for the lead. Jack Piper, Peter Masters and Luke Branch just behind battling for third place. Problems for Luke on lap six promoted Peter to fourth. A spin in the slippery conditions for Jack meant Peter picked up another place. For the last few laps Nicholas had been right behind Daniel, but battery / electrical problems forced him out of the race on lap eight. Peter was now in second place with Jack a way back in third. At the chequered flag, a win for Daniel Fisher ahead of Peter Masters in 2nd. Jack Piper coming home in 3rd.
SENIOR ROTAX MAX 177
Mel Cooke and Wayne Vickery starting on the front row of the grid, Mel winning one heat and Wayne the other two. Mel immediately into the lead, Wayne coming through into second with Cavin Doyle in third. Good driving from Mel, making light work of the conditions quickly opened out a large lead over the rest of the field. Mark Bowen passed Richard Selwyn for fourth place on lap two but spun off on the next lap, dropping down to seventh. Mark continued to work hard, getting his reward on lap eight passing Pip Lawn and Steve Everitt to go back into fifth place. At the flag, a comfortable win for Mel Cooke, finishing ahead of Wayne Vickery in 2nd. Cavin Doyle coming home in 3rd with Richard Selwyn in 4th position. Mark Bowen in 5th with Steve Everitt in 6th.
SENIOR ROTAX MAX
The final race of the year was held in near darkness. Gordon Chenery with two firsts and one second place in the heats started from pole. Ray Lincoln beside him in making up the front row of the grid. From the lights, Gordon never looked back, leading the race from start to finish. Ray Lincoln did his best to keep up with Gordon, as did Ashley Beales but Gordon’s experience in wet conditions proved more than enough. At the chequered flag a win for Gordon Chenery ahead of Ray Lincoln in 2nd. Ashley Beales in 3rd with Patrick Miller in 4th. Paul Canning in 5th ahead of Jason Beck in 6th.
