BECCLES & DISTRICT KART CLUB
CLUB MEETING 26th June 2004
The fourth round of the 2004 summer championships was held at Ellough on 26th
June.
COMER / WTP CADET
An excellent turnout of Comer / WTP karts started
the final in damp, overcast conditions. Two heat wins and a fourth place gave Oliver Hodgson the pole position.
Sam Blake sitting beside him in second place.
After the initial bunching up at the first corner, Oliver came out of the bend
in first place. The race settled down with drivers in line for the first few
laps with Thomas Stanway moving through the pack up in to third place by lap
seven, closely followed by Bobby Griffin in fourth. A neat pass on the next lap
saw Bobby move in to third place. Further down the field, there was some close
racing between Craig Pollard and Alex Widdrington and two of the girls, Katie
Dobson and Charlotte Wones. By lap twelve Oliver had pulled out a five metre
lead over Sam and the rest of the chasing pack. At the flag, Oliver Hodgson
taking the win ahead of Sam Blake in 2nd. Bobby Griffin coming home in 3rd with
Thomas Stanway in 4th. A good drive from Andrew Moore in 5th, with Craig Pollard
in 6th. Katie Dobson finishing in 10th place overall received the restricted
trophy.
HONDA CADET
Triple heat winner Tom Griffiths led the Honda cadets away from the lights, followed by Gordon Smith and Mathew Cochrane. Having to race each other and passing some of the Comer cadets made for an interesting race but Tom Griffiths driving steadily finishing in 1st place. Gordon Smith in 2nd position and receiving the restricted trophy. Mitch Squire coming through late in the race for 3rd place. Mathew Cochrane coming home in 4th with Jasmine Gunton in 5th.
JUNIOR TKM
Ashley Ruggles gained a clean sweep of points this week, winning all three heats and the final. He had to work a bit harder in the heats but starting on pole he quickly gained a lead, which he held to the chequered flag. Daniel Bishop getting the better of Stuart MacClinton to take 2nd place. Tom Cluley finishing in 4th.
JUNIOR ROTAX MAX
Pole sitter Dean Hill led away from the lights and round the first corner, immediately Luke Branch slipped past on the inside to take the lead. Luke kept the lead for the next lap with Dean trying every line to get past. Lap two saw Dean retake the lead and open out a large gap which he held to the flag. Jamie Fordham was a comfortable fourth but a spin on the damp track allowed James Canham through. At the flag, Dean Hill in 1st place, with Luke Branch in 2nd. Peter Masters finishing in 3rd ahead of James Canham in 4th with Jamie Fordhan in 5th.
MINI-MAX
Nicholas Wones had to work hard for this victory, Josh Bass and Bradley Smith never more than a couple of metres between them. Lap after lap they tried but without any luck. Daniel Fisher seized on one of the few opportunities to move up the field when Jamie Bardwell spun out and struggled to rejoin the race. At the chequered flag, a win for Nicholas Wones ahead of Josh Bass in 2nd. In 3rd place was Bradley Smith just ahead of Daniel Fisher in 4th. Jamie Bardwell crossing the line in 5th position.
SENIOR ROTAX MAX
Gordon Chenery after three heats wins was once again on pole position. Liam
Lambert in second place with Gavin Petty in third. From the lights Gavin stayed
right behind Gordon, forcing Liam in to third. Phil McLintic sticking to Liam's
bumper in fourth. On lap two, Liam slipped past Gavin and began closing the gap
to Gordon. Gordons lead decreased over the next few laps until lap five when
Liam slipped down the inside at the end of the start straight to take the lead.
Gavin Petty now had Gordon in his sights and reduced the gap over the next few
laps until lap nine when a good pass saw him in second place. With five laps
left, Gavin set about catching Liam, but Liam’s speed and the sizeable gap
proved to be too large. At the flag, Liam Lambert taking a well deserved win
ahead of Gavin Petty in 2nd. Gordon Chenery in 3rd position with Phil McLintic
in 4th. Will Smith at the head of the chasing group finishing in 5th place with
Mark Bowen in 6th.
