BECCLES & DISTRICT KART CLUB

CLUB MEETING 25th October 2003

The penultimate round of the 2003 summer championships was held at Ellough on 25th October

COMER CADET

Eleven Comer cadet karts started off in the first final of the day in dry, bright conditions. Triple heat winner, Jack Delaney, reached the first corner in the lead ahead of Liam Hamilton and Alex Widdrington.  Oliver Hodgson close to the group in fourth place.  The race quickly developed into two pairs and the rest.  Jack and Liam pulling out a gap over Alex and Oliver, with the chasing group further back.  On lap nine, Liam overtook Jack on the back straight for the lead, with Oliver getting past Alex to go in to third.  Further down the field Craig Pollard, Clinton Bridge and Charlotte Wones were having a race of their own for seventh place.  At the flag, Liam Hamilton had done enough to take 1st place with Jack Delaney coming home in 2nd.  Oliver Hodgson finishing in 3rd spot ahead of Alex Widdrington in 4th.  Sam Blake with a good drive just behind in 5th, ahead of Jake Wenham in 6th.  1st restricted trophy going to Oscar Moore.

HONDA CADET

Conner Summers took the win in the Honda cadet final ahead of Thomas Griffiths. Thomas, in his first ever race, also received the marshal’s driver of the day trophy.

WTP CADET

The WTP final was won by James Brown, closely followed by Thomas Stanway in 2nd.

JUNIOR TKM

Another triple heat winner, Ashley Ruggles, led nine Junior TKM karts away from the lights.  Tristam Macro and Stuart Macclinton settling in line behind the leader, with Jamie Bardwell overtaking Scott Day to take fourth place.  Another good move saw Jamie up to third ahead of Stuart.  But problems for Jamie on the next lap resulted in everyone moving back up a place.  By this time Ashley had opened out a good lead, which he held to take the chequered flag.  Tristam Macro coming home in 2nd position with Stuart Macclinton in 3rd.  Consistent driving from Scott Day resulted in a deserved 4th place.  In 5th spot and 1st restricted was Steven Chisholm. Daniel Bishop crossing the line in 6th.

JUNIOR TKM INTERMEDIATE

Benjamin Firbank started on pole for the Junior TKM Intermediate final.  Going straight into the lead from the green light ahead of Tommy Eustace.  On lap five, Ben Conner had moved up to second.  Tom Brown, with some consistent driving, overtook Tommy to claim third place on lap seven, relegating Tommy to fourth.  With ten metre gaps between each driver, the positions stayed the same until the flag.

JUNIOR ROTAX

A good field of ten karts started the Junior Rotax final. Robin Shute going into the lead from the lights.  Reece Broady and Oliver Thorpe fighting for second place. Leyton Nisbett and Ashley Beales both trying to claim fourth spot.  A collision on lap five brought out the red flag.  From the restart, Reece quickly got past Robin for the lead with Leyton moving up to third ahead of Oliver.  A collision between Reece and Robin with only two laps to go completely changed the race.  Robin managing to stay on the track, continued the race in the lead, with Reece rejoining the race in sixth place.  However, after protests had been raised, Robin was excluded from the race.  This resulted in the win being awarded to Leyton Nisbett.  Oliver Thorpe taking 2nd place with Ashley Beales in 3rd.  Michael Groves coming home in 4th just ahead of Reece Broady in 5th.  In 6th place overall, Peter Masters also claimed the restricted trophy.

MINI-MAX

Starting off the back of the Junior max grid, the field of eight Mini Max karts were led away from the green light by Nicholas Wones.  Starting from pole as a result of two heat wins, he quickly established a five-metre lead over the chasing group.  Josh Bass, Daniel Fisher and Rupert Svendson-Cook doing their best to catch up.  The race was stopped on lap five due to the collision between Junior Max karts.  The restart saw Nicholas once again pull out a lead over the rest of the field, which he held to the flag.  Josh Bass coming home in 2nd place and as 1st restricted driver.  Ben Sampson crossing the line in 3rd with Luke Branch in 4th.  James Lincoln finishing in 5th spot with Jake Baker in 6th.

SENIOR ROTAX MAX

Nineteen Rotax Max karts contested the last race of the day.  Gordon Chenery starting on pole, went in to the lead by the first corner.  Julian Warner and Adam Wright defending their second and third places from the following group.  At the end of lap one, Chris Trott had moved up to third place, Gavin Petty in to fourth and Brian Lely in to fifth place. Adam Wright overtook Gordon at the end of the start straight on lap five to take the lead. Chris Trott slipping past Gordon on the same lap for third.  Problems for Gavin Petty on lap eight saw Brian Lely up to fourth and James Lemmon move in to fifth place.  At the front, Adam Wright was doing enough to keep in the lead while Gordon and Chris traded places a few times.  Chris eventually pulling out a three metre lead to keep second place. At the flag, Adam Wright crossing the line in 1st place, with Chris Trott just behind in 2nd spot.  Gordon Chenery finishing in 3rd place with Brian Lely in 4th.  James Lemmon holding on to 5th ahead of Liam Lambert in 6th.  1st restricted trophy going to Phil Mclintic.
