BECCLES & DISTRICT KART CLUB

CLUB MEETING 25th August 2003

The sixth round of the 2003 summer championships was held at Ellough on 25th August.

COMER CADET

Thirteen Comer cadet karts started the first final of the day.  Winner of all three heats, Francis Harrold, starting from pole position led the group away from the green light. Francis, Alex Widdrington and Reece Ducommun soon pulled out a lead over the chasing pack.  With all the drivers keeping tight lines on corners and consistent straight line speed, overtaking was proving to be very difficult.  Oliver Hodgson being the exception, moving up from seventh place on lap one to sit on the tail of the leading pair by lap twelve. At the flag, Francis Harrold had kept the lead to take the win ahead of Alex Widdrington in 2nd place.  Oliver Hodgson finishing in 3rd spot ahead of Sam Blake in 4th.  Reece Ducommun coming home in 5th position.  A good steady drive from Simon Harris saw him pick up 6th place overall and the 1st restricted trophy.  Oscar Moore finishing as 2nd restricted driver.

JUNIOR TKM

A good turnout of  Junior TKM’s karts in this final, sixteen karts started the race and sixteen finished.  Another driver with three heat wins led the field away from the green light.  Jamie Bardwell pulled straight into the lead ahead of Mark Tisdale and Ashley Ruggles.  With everyone driving consistently, overtaking was limited.  This allowed Jamie to keep the lead from start to finish and take the flag.  Close behind was Mark Tisdale for 2nd place with Ashley Ruggles in 3rd.  Danny Fiske coming home in 4th ahead of Tristam Macro in 5th.  Steven Chisholm finished in 7th overall and 1st restricted driver.

MINIMAX

Nicholas Wones starting from pole soon opened out a five metre lead ahead of Oliver Walker and Rupert Svendson-Cook.  Rupert dropping out on the first lap with mechanical problems gave Luke Branch the third spot.  Luke also suffered a similar fate and soon dropped well down the field.  Daniel Fisher took up the chase but couldn’t get close enough to Oliver to challenge for the place.  At the flag, Nicholas Wones finishing in 1st place ahead of Oliver Walker in 2nd.  Daniel Fisher in 3rd place closely followed by Daniel Laddiman in 4th.

JUNIOR TKM INTERMEDIATE

Lots of fast, clean and close racing saw three of the four drivers all have their turn in the lead in the Junior TKM Intermediate final.  Tom Brown coming home as the eventual winner, closely followed by Benjamin Firbank in 2nd.  Tommy Eustace finishing in 3rd with Elliot Lees in 4th.

JUNIOR ROTAX

The Junior Rotax final was contested by a strong field of eleven karts.  Matt Skilton, yet another three heat winner, had to work hard in this race.  Oliver Thorpe and Michael Groves leading the chasing group.  Robin Shute coming from mid table quickly passed Matt Sampson for fourth spot, then Michael on lap twelve to claim third position.  At the finishing flag Matt Skilton had controlled the race to take the win.  Oliver Thorpe in 2nd place was also the marshal’s Driver of the Day for his consistent driving.  Robin Shute finishing in 3rd place with Michael Groves in 4th.  Steven Hopewell claiming the 1st restricted trophy with Leyton Nisbett as 2nd restricted driver.

SENIOR ROTAX MAX  / SENIOR TKM 4 STROKE

Sixteen Rotax Max karts and four TKM four stroke karts started the last race of the day.  Pole man Kevin Bishop keeping the lead for the first lap, Jason Baker a very close second.  Lap two saw Jason slip past Kevin for the lead.  On lap five, Gordon Chenery pushing hard for third place, tangled with Kevin at he first corner, allowing Gavin Petty and Carl Hunnibell through for second and third place respectively.  Gordon quickly reclaimed third from Carl and set after Gavin.  Further down the field, some of the best racing was between restricted driver Liam Lambert and James Lemmon.  James just doing enough to keep Liam behind.  Jason Baker at the front had the measure of Gavin and duly took the chequered flag for the win.  Gavin Petty in 2nd with Gordon Chenery in 3rd.  Carl Hunnibell coming home in 4th with Simon Smart in 5th. Gavin Jones close behind in 6th.  1st restricted trophy going to Liam Lambert.

The TKM four stroke class was won by Lee Close.
