BECCLES & DISTRICT KART CLUB
CLUB MEETING 24th July 2004
The fifth round of the 2004 summer championships was held at Ellough on 24th
July.
COMER / WTP CADET (Sponsored by A.D.Wones Motor Engineer)
A good field of Comer / WTP karts started the final in hot, sunny conditions. Oliver Hodgson on pole with Sam Blake making up the front row. A clean start from the lights down to the first corner, Sam drifted wide, allowing Oliver and Thomas Stanway through. Oliver immediately pulled out a kart lengths lead over the chasing group as they crossed the line at the end of the first lap. Further down the field, Charlotte Wones and Oliver Hindle both moved up the order by four places. Back at the front, Thomas and Sam were battling it out for second place until lap five, when Sam using a tighter line on the infield corners slipped past Thomas for second. James Brown just behind the leading group in fourth place. An excellent drive from Oliver Hindle saw him move up to seventh place by lap nine. With the race settling down for the last few laps, Oliver Hodgson maintained his lead to take the chequered flag. Sam Blake in 2nd place with Thomas Stanway coming home in 3rd. James Brown finishing close behind in 4th, just ahead of Craig Pollard in 5th. Simon Harris finishing strongly in 6th position. James Harris getting the restricted driver’s trophy. Oliver Hindle who finished in 8th place received the marshal’s driver of the day trophy
HONDA CADET
With plenty of time in hand, the Honda cadets had their own final. Tom Griffiths on pole led away from the green light but was soon overtaken by Curtis Ayres before the end of the first lap. Mathew Cochrane in third place. Lap two saw Tom take the lead with Mathew also getting past Curtis for second place. Gordon Smith made his move on lap five to move up in to third. By lap six, Tom had opened out a good lead, leaving the chasing pack of four to battle for the minor places. Each remaining lap had at least one change of position between the four drivers, providing family and friends with lots to cheer about. At the flag, Tom Griffiths took the win ahead of Mathew Cochrane in 2nd place. In 3rd position was Mitchell Squire ahead of Gordon Smith in 4th and Curtis Ayres in 5th.
JUNIOR TKM
Two heat wins saw Stuart MacClinton start on pole and lead round the first corner in the final. Daniel Bishop and David Evans battling for second place but mechanical problems saw David pull off the track after the first bend, and by the time he had sorted it, was two laps down. Despite his best efforts, Daniel couldn’t get quite close enough to Stuart to challenge for the lead, so at the flag, Stuart taking the win. Daniel Bishop in 2nd with David Evans in 3rd.
JUNIOR ROTAX MAX
Triple heat winner Luke Branch led away from the lights but soon found himself behind Jamie Fordham. Peter Masters settling down in third with James Canham in fourth. Peter dropped out of the race on lap six moving James up to third. On lap ten, Luke regained the lead, which he held to the finish. Jamie Fordham coming home in 2nd ahead of James Canham in 3rd.
MINI-MAX
Nicholas Wones had a comfortable win in the final. Winning all three heats, putting him on pole gave him more than enough advantage over the other drivers. Leading from start to finish gave him a clean sweep of the points on the day. Steady driving from Josh Bass in 2nd place ahead of James Mulley in 3rd and James Lincoln in 4th.
SENIOR ROTAX MAX
Gordon Chenery once again had the Lambert brothers beside and behind him as he crossed the start line for the final. Gordon strayed to the outside of the first corner allowing Liam and Gary Lambert, Gavin Jones and Ben Simonds all through. Setting a good pace, Liam and Gary opened out a five-metre lead, with third to fifth places no more than a kart length apart. Gordon regained fourth place on lap four, but couldn’t get past Gavin for third place until lap nine. Liam Lambert appeared to have the measure of his brother and drove consistently to keep the lead. At the chequered flag, another win for Liam Lambert. Gary Lambert close behind in 2nd place ahead of Gordon Chenery in 3rd. Gavin Jones finishing in 4th position ahead of Ben Simonds in 5th. Phil McLintic coming home in 6th place.
