BECCLES & DISTRICT KART CLUB
CLUB MEETING
The eighth round of the 2004 summer championships was held at Ellough on 23rd
October.
COMER / WTP CADET
Once again another full field of Comer cadets turning out for the final, held
in wet and windy conditions. Oliver Hodgson on pole, trying to make the most of
starting from the front. James Brown joining him on the front row. A good clean
start from the lights saw James in the lead after the first corner. Oliver
having to settle for second place, just ahead of Simon Harris and Sam Blake.
Oliver didn’t wait long to re-take the lead and start to open out a gap. Thomas
Stanway making the best of the slippery conditions, moving through the field up
to seventh from twelfth by the end of lap four. Craig Pollard soon found out
that going off line cost places, as he dropped from fifth to eighth on lap
eight. Oliver Hindle also made steady progress through the field, up
to sixth by the end of lap eight. Further down the field, Jake Wenham,
Teddie Harvey and Charlotte Wones were battling it out for ninth position.
Hodgson's lead increased every lap but Thomas Stanway hadn’t given up as he
gained a place every lap, up to third on lap twelve and slipping past Oliver
Hindle for second on lap thirteen. At the flag, another win for Oliver Hodgson
ahead of Thomas Stanway in 2nd. Oliver Hindle finishing in 3rd place with Curtis
Ayres in 4th position. Simon Harris in 5th spot ahead of Craig Pollard in 6th.
Kirsty Harris taking the restricted drivers trophy.
HONDA CADET
Triple heat winner Mitchell Squire led away from the lights, closely followed by Conner Summers and Tom Griffiths. With all the Honda cadet drivers driving consistently, a mistake from someone else looked to be the only way to gain any places. No mistakes were made so Mitchell Squire led from start to finish to take the win. Conner Summers finishing in 2nd ahead of Tom Griffiths in 3rd. Mathew Cochrane in 4th place just ahead of Gordon Smith in 5th.
JUNIOR TKM
Stuart MacClinton led away from pole position with Ashley Ruggles in second. Stuart keeping the lead for half a lap until Ashley slipped past in to first place. Ashley and Stuart increased their lead over the rest of the field and although Stuart kept within two metres of Ashley for the whole race, he couldn’t catch and pass him. Ashley Ruggles taking the win ahead of Stuart MacClinton in 2nd. Tom Cluley finishing in 3rd in front of Daniel Bishop in 4th. Lee Waters coming home in 5th overall and as1st place restricted driver.
JUNIOR ROTAX MAX
Two heat wins and a sixth place put Luke Branch on pole position. Coming away from the first corner, James Lincoln overtook Luke for the lead, with Peter Masters joining the leaders in third place. Jamie Fordham and James Canham battling for fourth place. Jamie gaining the advantage over James on lap two. Continuing his good run, Jamie got past Peter for third place on lap seven. By lap nine, James was in fourth and Ben Hughes had moved up to fifth. Going off line towards the end, Jamie dropped down to fourth allowing James through for third. At the chequered flag, a win for James Lincoln ahead of Luke Branch in 2nd. Luke also received the marshal’s driver of the day trophy. James Canham finished in 3rd ahead of Jamie Fordham in 4th. Peter Masters coming home in 5th with Ben Hughes finishing as 1st restricted driver in 6th position overall.
MINI-MAX
Bradley Smith started on pole with Josh Bass beside him. A good clean start away from the green lights and Bradley was in the lead, Josh in second with Nicholas Wones in third. Alex Widdrington close behind in fourth. For ten laps there was no more than a metre between the top four karts until Josh overtook Bradley for the lead on lap eleven. Alex had been applying pressure to Nicholas all race and finally it paid off as he slipped past in to third place on the last lap. At the finish, a deserved win for Josh Bass, closely followed by Bradley Smith in 2nd. Alex Widdrington in 3rd spot ahead of Nicholas Wones in 4th. Daniel Fisher coming home in 5th just ahead of Michael Ruggieri in 6th.
SENIOR ROTAX MAX
Chris Lock was in pole position after two heat wins, Liam Lambert in second
place, with consistent driving from Gavin Petty putting him in third place on
the grid. Driving round the outside of the first corner put Gavin in the lead,
Chris relegated to second and Liam down to third. Gordon Chenery close behind in
fourth. Just off the back of the leading group, Phil McLintic and Leyton Nisbett
were dicing for fifth place. As the race settled down, the leaders began to ease
away from the chasing pack, Gavin maintaining a good pace and line, keeping
Chris and Liam at bay. Mark Bowen, Jamie Lambert and Ben Conner were having
their own battle further down the field. Coming up to the sweeping left hand
bend before the hairpin on the last lap, Liam, after as many points as possible
in the race for the championship title, kept a tighter line and came round the
bend on the inside of the leading duo. Chris and Gavin were forced wide,
collided and went off the track, coming to a halt on to the edge of the grass.
Gordon tried to avoid this but was also forced to stop. Liam carried on to
collect the win. Chris Lock recovered for 2nd place ahead of Gordon Chenery in
3rd. Finishing in 4th spot was Phil McLintic ahead of Gavin Petty in 5th. Gavin
Jones crossed the line in 6th position. Ray Lincoln coming home as the 1st
restricted driver.
