BECCLES & DISTRICT KART CLUB

CLUB MEETING 22nd November 2003

The ninth and final round of the 2003 summer championships was held at Ellough on 22nd November.

COMER CADET

A good turnout of twelve Comer cadet karts started the ten lap final in dull, wet conditions.  Triple heat winner Martin Long leading the group away from the lights.  Liam Hamilton, Jack Delaney and Oliver Hodgson, sitting on his rear bumper, a few metres behind.  Championship leader, Alex Widdrington, just behind in sixth place.  On lap five, Alex going for fifth place ended up in eighth after spinning off the track.  With the conditions dictating everybody’s race strategy of keeping on the track as a priority, overtaking was always going to be difficult.  By lap six, Liam, Jack and Oliver were still battling with each other for second place as Martin had pulled out a five metre lead.  At the flag, Martin Long took a well-deserved win.  Liam Hamilton finishing in 2nd place with Jack Delaney in 3rd.  Oliver Hodgson coming home in 4th with Andrew Moore in 5th.  Alex Widdrington pulling back two places to finish in 6th.  1st restricted trophy going to Oscar Moore.

HONDA CADET

Conner Summers took the win in the Honda cadet final.

WTP CADET

The WTP final was won by Oliver Hindle, with James Brown in 2nd place.

MINI-MAX

Nine Mini Max karts were led away from the green lights by triple heat winner Daniel Fisher.  Rupert Svendson-Cook and Luke Branch immediately battling for second place.  At the end of the first lap, Rupert had taken the lead with Daniel in second place.  Lap two saw the positions reversed. Luke Branch slipped past Rupert for a spell in second spot before sliding off the track.  Lap six saw Daniel take his turn to have a spin in the middle of the track allowing Rupert back into the lead.  Steady driving from Nicholas Wones meant he was now up to second ahead of Josh Bass.  Rupert doing his best as always, went wide on the double apex corner to allow Nicholas through into first place.  Rupert doing the same thing on the next lap allowing Josh to take second.   At the flag, Nicholas Wones taking the win.  Josh Bass coming home in 2nd place and as 1st restricted driver.  Rupert Svendson-Cook in 3rd place with Oliver Walker in 4th.  Jake Baker finishing well in 5th and Daniel Fisher recovering a few places to come home in 6th spot.

JUNIOR ROTAX MAX

Eleven karts started the Junior Rotax final.  Dean Hill on pole led the group away from the lights ahead of Reece Broady and Ashley Beales.  With everybody driving exceptionally well in the conditions, changes of position were limited, the best move being made by Robin Shute on Oliver Thorpe on lap seven to take forth place.  Consistent driving from Dean Hill made sure he led the race from start to finish and claimed the win ahead of Reece Broady in 2nd.  Ashley Beales coming home in 3rd position just ahead of Robin Shute in 4th.  Oliver Thorpe taking 5th place with James Canham in 6th.  Peter Masters finished in 8th overall and also claimed the restricted trophy.

JUNIOR TKM INTERMEDIATE

Another triple heat winner, Benjamin Firbank started on pole for the Junior TKM Intermediate final.  With conditions getting worse by the minute, Benjamin immediately pulled out a lead over Tom Brown and Ben Conner.  As with the previous races, once a gap had been established between karts, it was simply a case of trying to stay on the track until the finish.  Benjamin Firbank did exactly this to take the chequered flag.  Tom Brown finishing in 2nd place ahead of Ben Conner in 3rd.  Tommy Eustace coming home in 4th.

JUNIOR TKM

Danny Fiske led the group away in the Junior TKM final.  Jamie Bardwell and Stuart MacClinton settling in line behind the leader.  Stuart moving up to second on lap two after Jamie had slid off the track, rejoining the race a lap down.  Ashley Ruggles working his way through the field, moved up to second by lap six, closely followed by Steven Chisholm in fourth.  At the flag, Danny Fiske taking the win ahead of Ashley Ruggles in 2nd. Stuart MacClinton in 3rd with Steven Chisholm in 4th place and 1st restricted.  Steven also receiving the marshal’s Driver of the Day trophy.  Tristam Macro finishing in 5th place ahead of Alex Curnow in 6th.

SENIOR ROTAX MAX

With the light fading fast, sixteen Rotax Max karts contested the last race of the day.  Gordon Chenery starting on pole, Adam Wright beside him in second. Gordon pulling straight into the lead from the lights closely followed by Adam and Kevin Bishop.  Adam, finding some grip, slipped past Gordon on the infield part of the track to take first place.  Kevin trying to follow Adam past Gordon ended up on the side of the track, restarting in last place.  Gavin Petty moved up to third closely followed by Paul Canning.  Gary Lambert having an excellent drive was now up to fifth.  At the front, Adam Wright, although under pressure from Gordon, was always in control, doing enough to keep the lead to the flag.  Gordon finishing no more than a metre behind in 2nd place.  Gavin Petty just behind for a well deserved 3rd position.  Paul Canning in 4th, Gary Lambert in 5th. 1st restricted trophy going to Richard Selwin in 7th position.
