CLUB MEETING 22nd JUNE 2002

CADET

From the lights it was Kieran Smith who jumped into the lead ahead of Luke Branch and Nick Wones. On lap 2 Wones found his way past Branch and homed in on Smith and after challenging him for many laps found his way into the lead on lap 10.  Meanwhile Branch was coming under pressure in 3rd from Alex Widdrington and Jordon Coulson.  After swapping the lead a few times in the closing laps it was Wones who finally took the flag with Smith having to settle for 2nd, Branch held on for 3rd, Coulson got the better of Widdrington for 4th and Oliver Hodgson 6th. In the WTP Cadets Jake Baker took the win ahead of Nicholas Lucas and in the Honda Cadet the win went to William Simpson.

JUNIOR TKM

With 3 different winners from the heats this was always going to be a close final and sure enough the first 3 were inseparable with Dean Hill leading them away, Ashley Ruggles in 2nd and Craig Bell 3rd. These three pulled out a lead from the field but despite giving it their all Ruggles and Bell had to settle for 2nd and 3rd respectively behind Hill. Matt Skilton came home 4th, Jamie Bardwell 5th and Danny Fiske 6th.

JUNIOR INTERMEDIATE, JICA & JUNIOR ROTAX

The Rotax started at the front of the grid and it was Clarke Randall who opened up a huge lead to win by around 15 seconds, Rory Brodie in turn opened up a 6 second lead to take 2nd from Robin Shute 3rd. The intermediates were led away by James Blyth ahead of Ruth Senior, Ben Conner and Adam Blackmore. These 4 were almost bumper to bumper for the whole race but come the chequered flag the order hadn't altered. 5th place went to Daniel Laddiman and 6th to Reece Broady. Dave Thompson drove a great race, coming up through the Intermediates in his JICA to take the class win.

SENIOR ROTAX & LEOPARDS

From the lights Julian Warner got the jump on pole man Gavin Petty to lead although on lap 3 he made a mistake and dropped to 3rd with Petty leading from Gordon Chennery.  On lap 6 Warner finally pulled out of the race with mechanical trouble leaving Jason Baker in 3rd. Lap 8 saw Gavin Petty retire after crashing heavily into the tyres on Turn 1. This left Chennery to take the flag with Baker only a kart length behind in 2nd, David Adams came 3rd with Simon Smart 4th, Carl Hunnibell 5th and John Close 6th. Bryan Lely won the Leopard class after a good battle with Kevin Silcock 2nd.

SENIOR TKM

This race was heartbreak for Nathen Roberts who led the field away and opened up a comfortable gap before crashing out to lose what was certain to be an easy win. This left Ben Tyler to pick up the pieces and although he took to the grass exiting the hairpin he managed to hold on for the win from Jason Thurlow 2nd, Stuart Jiggins 3rd and Andrew Aguda 4th.

GEARBOX

A great start by Richard Ordish saw him lead the field away with Howard Bennett 2nd, Richard Weavers 3rd, David Stephen 4th and Marts Erdmanis 5th. On lap 3 a mistake saw Bennett drop from 2nd to 4th with Weavers now in hot pursuit of Ordish. Try as he may he couldn't catch Ordish who took a comfortable win, Weavers finished 2nd with Stephen 3rd. Erdmanis worked his way up to 4th with Bennett dropping to 5th.
