CLUB MEETING 22nd February 2003

COMER CADET / HONDA CADET / WTP CADET

There were eighteen karts contesting three classes in the Cadet finals at Ellough on 22nd February.  In the Comer cadet class, Nicholas Wones, in pole position, immediately pulled out a five metre lead over Alex Widdrington and Oliver Hodgson.  The leading trio, keeping up a consistent pace, began lapping tail enders by lap five.  The marshals working hard with their blue flags to help the leading group pass safely. Nicholas, having controlled the race from the front, took the chequered flag just ahead of Alex Widdrington in 2nd place.  Oliver Hodgson finishing in 3rd spot with Andrew Moore as 4th overall and 1st restricted.  Sam Blake working hard came home in 5th, just ahead of Craig Day in 6^th.

The Honda cadet class saw Daniel Fisher and William Simpson battle each other for the whole race, with Daniel edging ahead to take the flag.  William Simpson a worthy 2nd place, with  Jasmine Gunton in 3rd.

The WTP cadet class, after some close racing, was won by Thomas Stanway.  Thomas also went home with the 1st restricted trophy for his efforts. James Buckingham pushing hard for his 2nd place.    

JUNIOR TKM / MINIMAX

A grid of 16 karts started the final of Junior TKMs & Minimax, with Rupert Svendson-Cook continuing his run of wins in the Minimax class. Rupert finishing comfortably ahead of Luke Branch in 2nd position, with Daniel Laddiman in 3rd.  Oliver Walker taking 4th place. 

The Junior TKM final was a close fought race, resulting in a win for Matt Skilton.  he chasing pack of Danny Fiske, Miles Crowther and Tristam Macro were never more than a few metres behind Matt for the entire race.  Tristam Macro getting past Danny Fiske on lap four, took 2nd place.  Danny, finished strongly in 3rd, with Miles Crowther in 4th. Jamie Bardwell taking 5th position and Ashley Ruggles in 6th.  Daniel Bishop taking the 1st restricted position.

JUNIOR TKM INTERMEDIATE / JUNIOR ROTAX

The Junior Rotax Max final was led away from the lights by Reece Broady.  Reece, working hard to gain a 20 metre lead over the rest of the field after a few laps.  The chasing group of Rory Brodie, Ashley Beales, Michael Groves and Oliver Thorpe, all swapping positions for several laps.  Reece held the lead to take the chequered flag, with Oliver Thorpe coming through the group to finish in 2nd.  Ashley Beales taking 3rd spot, with Rory Brodie in 5th and Penni Stanton in 5^th.

The four kart Junior TKM Intermediate final provided a comfortable win for Adam Blackmore.  Leading from start to finish, Adam finishing ahead of Ben Conner in 2nd place.  Tom Brown in 3rd position with Elliot Lees in 4th.

SENIOR TKM 4 STROKE

The TKM 4 strokes appear to be gaining in popularity at Beccles, with five turning up on the day. The final was led away by Wayne Close, beating Kevin Silcock to the first corner.  Jason Fowler and John Close in close attendance.  At the finish flag, Wayne had opened up a fourty metre lead to take the win.  Jason Fowler in 2nd spot, with Kevin Silcock in 3rd and John Close in 4th.

SENIOR ROTAX MAX

Thirteen karts started the senior Rotax final, Jason Baker leading the group away from the lights, quickly opening up a significant lead over Gordon Chenery, Julian Warner and Kevin Bishop.  By lap 10 Gordon, using his many years of karting experience, had reduced the gap to just a few kart lengths.  Kevin Bishop slipping past Julian after the hairpin was now in 3rd place.  Kevin Otaway, working hard had moved up to 6th place, just behind Gavin Petty.  Jason Baker, realising he was being caught, kept his concentration to take the win.  Gordon Chenery in 2nd place, with Kevin Bishop in 3rd.  Julian Warner in 4th ahead of Gavin Petty in 5th.  Kevin Otaway holding on to 6th position. The restricted trophy going to Richard Selwin.
