BECCLES & DISTRICT KART CLUB

CLUB MEETING 20th November 2004

The ninth and final round of the 2004 summer championships was held at Ellough on 20th November.

COMER / WTP CADET

A good field of Comer / WTP cadets in the final, held in very cold, bright conditions. Three heat wins placed Oliver Hodgson on pole, Thomas Stanway in second. Hodgson kept the lead round the first corner with Sam Blake, Thomas Stanway and Simon Harris all battling for second place. Craig Pollard and Charlotte Wones, a few metres behind trying to claim fifth spot. Further down the field, Oliver Hindle had moved up from twelfth place and was catching up to the leading group, and by the end of lap three had passed Craig to take sixth place. The race settled down for the next three laps, with Charlotte still in fifth place, saving her best drive of the year until the last. By lap eight, Oliver Hindle had caught and passed Charlotte for fifth place. Jake Wenham, Craig Pollard and James Harris, were just behind the main group but still in with a chance of a higher position. On lap ten, Sam passed Thomas to go in to second place but couldn’t manage to catch Hodgson in the last few laps. At the flag, a well deserved win for Oliver Hodgson ahead of Sam Blake in 2nd. Thomas Stanway finishing in 3rd place with Simon Harris coming home in 4th. Oliver Hindle in 5th and Charlotte Wones with an excellent drive finishing in 6th. Kirsty Harris taking the restricted drivers trophy.

HONDA CADET

Gordon Smith in pole position after three good heat races, Mitchell Squire in second place. From the green light, Mitchell and Tom Griffiths made a better start, putting Gordon down to third place. Marcus Carvalho just behind in fourth. On lap two, Marcus slipped past Gordon for third spot and continued to make ground on Tom. Lap six and Marcus took second place and began to close up to Mitchell. Mathew Cochrane getting the better of Gordon to claim fourth place. Taking the chequered flag, Mitchell Squire ahead of Marcus Carvalho in 2nd. Thomas Griffiths in 3rd, with Mathew Cochrane in 4th place. Gordon Smith finishing in 5th ahead of Conner Summers in 6th.

JUNIOR TKM

Pole position going to Ashley Ruggles after three heat wins. Consistent driving from Daniel Bishop in the heats put him in second spot on the grid. Ashley went straight in to the lead with Daniel and Stuart MacClinton settling in behind him. Lap six and Stuart got past Daniel for second but by this time Ashley had a ten metre lead and was not going to be caught. At the finish flag, a victory for Ashley Ruggles over Stuart MacClinton in 2nd place. Daniel Bishop in 3rd with Lee Waters coming home in 4th overall and as1st place restricted driver. Lee also finishing the day off as the marshals driver of the day. Tom Cluley finishing in 5th spot.

JUNIOR ROTAX MAX

Two heat wins and a fourth place saw Luke Branch on pole with Peter Masters in second. From the lights, Luke went straight in to the lead, Peter Masters and Jamie Fordham battling for second spot. Ben Hughes hanging on in fourth. Lap two and a mistake by Jamie saw him drop down to sixth, overtaken by Ben, James Canham and James Lincoln. Jamie eventually recovering to fifth position on lap ten. On the line, another win for Luke Branch, Peter Masters having to settle for 2nd place. With limited overtaking possibilities due to the quality of driving further down the field, Ben Hughes coming home in 3rd place and being the 1st restricted driver. James Canham finishing in 4th, Jamie Fordham in 5th and James Lincoln in 6th.

MINI-MAX

Alex Widdrington on pole led away from the lights in the final. Bradley Smith in second place after the first corner with Josh Bass and Nicholas Wones making up the leading group. Once again, consistent driving limited the overtaking to a minimum with Alex just keeping a two metre lead over the following group. Josh was trying his best to keep Nicholas behind him to stand any chance of winning the championship, but went slightly wide on the infield on lap six, allowing Nicholas past in to third place. At the finish, a deserved win for Alex Widdrington ahead of Bradley Smith in 2nd. Nicholas Wones coming home in 3rd just ahead of Josh Bass in 4th. Daniel Fisher in 5th in front of Ben Sampson in 6th.

SENIOR ROTAX MAX

Chris Lock following on from his excellent drive last month, started from pole position after two heat wins and a third in the heats. Gavin Petty starting from second on the grid soon found himself behind Leyton Nisbett and Gordon Chenery after the first corner. Liam Lambert on the back of this group in fifth. On lap three, Gordon overtook Leyton to move in to second, knowing that keeping in front of Liam would guarantee him the title. Lap six and Gavin slipped past Leyton for third, Liam following suit, dropping Leyton down to fifth. Just behind this group, Patrick Miller, Paul Canning and Julian Warner wee battling over sixth place. Gavin Petty made a move on lap ten to take second spot ahead of Gordon. Chris had been steadily increasing his lead, which he held to the flag, taking the win ahead of Gavin Petty in 2nd. Gordon Chenery finishing in 3rd with Liam Lambert in 4th spot. Leyton Nisbett, getting more confident with every race coming home in 5th ahead of Patrick Miller in 6th position. Patrick also collected the 1st restricted trophy.
