CLUB MEETING 20th March 2004

The third and final round of the 2004 winter championships was held at Ellough on 20th March.

CADET

Oliver Hodgson, with two wins and a second place in the heats, led off the seventeen karts in the Cadet final. Sam Blake and Alex Widdrington immediately behind him. The race lasted two laps before an incident in the middle of the circuit brought out the red flag. From the restart, Oliver once again began to pull out a lead over the chasing group. Connor Summers and Sam Blake slipping past Alex to get into the leading group. Further down the field, Tom Griffiths had battled his way up to sixth place by mid-race. Lap ten saw several changes to the race order, Connor fell back to fifth, Andrew Moore went up to third, Tom up to fourth and Alex dropped all the way down to eighth. At the finish flag, a comfortable win for Oliver Hodgson, with Sam Blake in 2nd. Good work from Andrew Moore was rewarded with a 3rd place. Tom Griffiths coming home in 4th overall and 1st restricted driver. Connor Summers keeping hold of 5th place ahead of Craig Pollard in 6th.  

JUNIOR ROTAX MAX

Triple heat winner Oliver Thorpe led the group away from the green lights. Oliver Walker, Luke Branch and Peter Masters, battling amongst themselves for second spot. Luke unfortunately dropped out on lap six. At the chequered flag, Oliver Thorpe had opened out a good lead and took the win. Oliver Walker finishing in 2nd with Peter Masters coming home in 3rd.

JUNIOR TKM

Another triple heat winner, Ashley Ruggles started in pole position, closely followed by Steven Chisholm, Stuart MacClinton and David Evans. Ashley quickly opened out a comfortable gap by mid race. Steven and Stuart continuing to swap places right up to the flag. Ashley Ruggles taking the win, ahead of Steven Chisholm in 2nd place. Stuart MacClinton just behind in 3rd spot ahead of 4th place and 1st restricted driver David Evans  

MINI-MAX

Three good drives in the heats put Bradley Smith on pole position for the final. Nicholas Wones in second doing his best to fend off Jack Delaney and Rupert Svendson-Cook. By lap five, Josh Bass had moved past Rupert for third place, and on lap six went past Nicholas into second. Everybody settled down for the next few laps, until on lap eleven, on the exit from the double apex corner, Nicholas went off the track and rejoined the race in sixth place. Daniel Rogers took full advantage of the situation to move up to fourth place. At the finish flag, Bradley Smith taking a well deserved win. Jack Delaney holding on to 2nd with Rupert Svendson-Cook coming home in 3rd. Daniel Rogers finishing in 4th place ahead of Nicholas Wones in 5th. James Lincoln ending the day as 1st restricted driver.

SENIOR ROTAX MAX /  ROTAX 175

Eightteen karts started the final race of the day. Gordon Chenery getting away to a good start ahead of Miles Crowther and Ashley Beales. Liam Lambert and Will Smith settling in behind in fourth and fifth places. Although relatively new to the senior Rotax class, Miles and Ashley immediately put on a good show of driving, swapping places several times in the first half of the race. On lap twelve, an error by Will Smith allowed both Liam Lambert and Reece Broady through. Both drivers doing exactly the same thing to Ashley Beales two laps later. At the flag, another win for Gordon Chenery followed home by Miles Crowther. Liam Lambert held off any further challenges for 3rd place. As a result of this drive, he received the marshal’s driver of the day trophy. In 4th place was Reece Broady, just ahead of Ashley Beales in 5th. Will Smith finishing in 6th position. In 9th place overall and 1st restricted position was Stephen Bott. Glen Attewell coming 1st in the 175 class.
