CLUB MEETING 17th FEBRUARY 2002

A sunny February day saw a large turnout of drivers for the second round of the winter series at Ellough Park Raceway. Unfortunately a bad accident that left Gordon Chennery with a broken collarbone meant that the 14 lap finals were reduced to 10 laps. The club would like to wish Gordon all their best wishes for a speedy recovery and hope to have him back racing soon.

CADET

Craig Boyd was the name to remember in the Cadets as he not only won all 3 heats but stormed away for a fine victory in the final, beating Toby Rogers into 2nd place by the length of the home straight. Nick Wones came home 3rd ahead of Keiran Smith 4th, Jack Delaney 5th with Thomas Fitzpatrick rounding out the top 6. Alex Widdrington was 1st restricted in 7th.

HONDA CADET

The Honda Cadets ran off the front of the Cadet grid and it was Rupert Svensden-Cook who got away fastest, he held the lead until near the end when Rhys Jenkins got past to take the win, Svensden-Cook held onto 2nd with Tom Trustcott taking 3rd, Bradley Smith 4th and William Smith (1st restricted) 5th.

JUNIOR TKM

There was a battle Royal in this race as Gary Findlay and Danny Fiske exchanged the lead no fewer than 7 times although at the flag it was Findlay who was victorious by half a karts length from Fiske. Matt Skilton took 3rd place when he sneaked past William Reed (4th) on the final lap, Tommy Eustace came home 5th with Jamie Bardwell (1st restricted 6th.

JUNIOR INTERMEDIATES & JUNIOR ROTAX

James Blyth got off to a flying start in this final opening up an early lead on Niraj Gorshia in his Jnr Rotax and the TKM of Ruth Senior. Gorshia however managed on lap 8 to get the better of Blyth and eased away for a comfortable victory. Blyth was the first TKM home with the hard battling Senior right on his bumper in 2nd, Ben Tyler was next home in 3rd with Reece Broady 4th and Adam Blackmore (1st restricted) 5th.

ROTAX MAX, BILAND, SENIOR TKM & 100 NATIONAL

The race was turned upside down as early as the 1st corner when no fewer than 7 karts were caught up in an incident, when things finally worked themselves out it was Julian Warner with the lead followed closely by Stuart Weavers, Gavin Petty and David Lock. Warner slowly eased out a comfortable lead which he would hold to the flag but the battle behind went right to the wire as Weavers held on for a good 2nd, Petty 3rd and Lock 4th. Next home came Jason Baker with James Lemon (1st restricted) 6th. The two Bilands of Billy Maloy and Kevin Bishop showed that they would be a force to be reckoned with taking the chequered flag in 5th and 6th places on the track respectfully. Nathan Roberts won the Snr TKM and Ricky Twell won in the 100 National.

125 OPEN

Having won 2 of the 3 heats Jonathon Weavers must have fancied his chances in the final but a collision with brother Richard on the first lap put him way back with a mountain to climb. He did however manage to catch Richard on the final lap but had no time to mount a challenge which left Richard Weavers the winner, Jonathon Weavers 2nd and Howard Bennett who looked a bit jaded after also racing in the Rotax Max class 3rd.
