BECCLES & DISTRICT KART CLUB

CLUB MEETING 12th April 2004

The first round of the 2004 summer championships was held at Ellough on 12th April.

COMER / WTP CADET

After three excellent drives in the heats, Oliver Hodgson started the cadet final in pole position, going straight into the lead from the green light ahead of Rhys Malyon and James Brown. With five laps gone, Rhys made his move and slipped past Oliver for the lead. Further down the field, Simon Harris and Andrew Moore were battling for fifth place. By the end of lap six, Oliver had retaken the lead and began to open out a gap over Rhys. Rhys in turn was twenty metres ahead of third place driver Sam Blake. Andrew Moore dropped out on lap ten allowing Jake Wenham and Craig Pollard to contest sixth place. Craig eventually getting past Jake on lap twelve to claim sixth position. At the flag, Oliver Hodgson took the win by a good margin over 2nd place driver Rhys Malyon. Sam Blake finishing in 3rd place with James Brown coming home in 4th. In 5th place was Simon Harris ahead of Craig Pollard in 6th. James Harris taking the restricted trophy.

HONDA CADET

The Honda cadets, starting at the back of the grid put on a good show with Tom Griffiths at the front of the group. Driving consistently, he led from start to finish and claimed the win ahead of Matthew Cochrane in 2nd. Gordon Smith finishing in 3rd ahead of Jasmine Gunton in 4th.

JUNIOR TKM

Triple heat winner Jamie Bardwell led off from the lights ahead of Ashley Ruggles. Tristam Macro settling in close behind in third place until problems on lap three forced him out of the race. Steven Chisholm and Stuart MacClinton exchanging places several times before Scott Day came from behind to take fourth spot by lap six and third by lap thirteen. Jamie Bardwell receiving the chequered flag ahead of Ashley Ruggles in 2nd position. Scott Day in 3rd in front of Stuart MacClinton in 4th. Steven Chisholm coming home in 5th with Tom Cluley 6th. JUNIOR ROTAX MAX

Six junior Rotax karts in the final, led away from the green light by Matt Skilton. Triple heat winner Matt beating James Canham and Luke Branch to the first corner. Jack Piper right on their tail in fourth place. Consistent driving from Matt saw his lead increase on every lap all the way to the finish line. At the flag, a well deserved win for Matt Skilton. Luke Branch in 2nd place ahead of James Canham in 3rd. Coming home in 4th was Jack Piper just ahead of Jamie Fordham in 5th.

MINI-MAX

Bradley Smith led away the nine kart field in the Mini-Max final. Nicholas Wones dropping immediately into second place ahead of Daniel Fisher in third. Jack Delaney and Jake Baker a bit further back fighting over fifth place. After fourteen laps of Nicholas trying every thing to get past him, Bradley Smith did enough to take the flag, a few metres ahead of Nicholas Wones in 2nd. Good driving from Daniel Fisher to finish in 3rd, with Josh Bass coming through in 4th. Jack Delaney finally getting the better of Jake Baker to come home in 5th. James Mulley finished as 7th overall and 1st restricted driver.

SENIOR ROTAX MAX

Twenty senior Rotax and three Rotax 175’s started the final race of the day. Liam Lambert in pole position, was pushed into second place by the first corner by Phil McLintic. Unfortunately, a coming together between Liam, Jason Baker and Nick Phipps put paid to any useful part in the race. Gordon Chenery, as usual, was on hand to take advantage and slipped through into second place. Ashley Beales and Simon Smart right behind Gordon. By the end of lap three, Gordon had taken the lead from Phil. Excellent driving from Mark Bowen moved him through the field to fifth place by lap nine, ahead of Tom Horley and Reece Broady. On lap twelve, Tom had moved through into fourth place. Out in front, Gordon had opened out a few metre lead which he held to the chequered flag. Phil McLintic coming home in 2nd place ahead of Ashley Beales in 3rd. Ashley also picked up the marshals driver of the day trophy. In 4th spot was Tom Horley in front of Mark Bowen in 5th. Reece Broady finishing in 6th place. Ryan Withers as 1st restricted driver. In the Rotax 175 class, Jamie Brown finishing in 1st place ahead of Jon Roberts and Glen Attewell.
