CLUB MEETING 6th MAY2002

CADET

Craig Boyd led the karts away from the lights but came under some severe pressure from Toby Rogers, he managed however to keep his nose in front and towards the end of the race pulled away for the victory. It looked like Rogers had 2nd in the bag until a mistake on lap 12 saw him drop down to 5th, Thomas Fitzpatrick took full advantage of this to take 2nd, Nick Wones 3rd with Rogers clawing his way back up to 4th. Liam Hamilton took 5th ahead of Krishan Padhiar 6th. Ben Sampson was 1st restricted in 13th.

HONDA & WTP CADET

In the WTP Cadets Jake Baker made a good start and found himself well clear of Amy Ashton 2nd and Nicholas Lucas 3rd by the chequered flag, W. Simpson won the Honda Cadet.

JUNIOR TKM

Danny Fiske and Dean Hill had a battle royal in the final with never more than a couple of kart lengths between them, although after exchanging the lead it was Fiske who took the flag with Hill having to settle for 2nd. William Reed had a good drive to take 3rd with Ashley Ruggles 4th, Craig Bell 5th and Tommy Eustace 6th. 1st restricted went to Benjamin Firbank who finished in a very good 8th place overall.

JUNIOR TKM INTERMEDIATE

This race saw a good tussle between Ruth Senior and James Blyth although by the time they crossed the finishing line Senior had opened up a comfortable lead. Blyth managed to hold off a determined challenge by Ben Conner for 2nd, Adam Blackmore (1st restricted) took 4th, Reece Broady 5th, Daniel Laddiman (2nd restricted) 6th and Sarah Freeman (3rd restricted) 7th.

JUNIOR ROTAX

A shock seemed in store in the Rotax as after the 1st lap as Clarke Randall who had won 2 of the 3 heats by a country mile came round in 3rd. This wasn't a sign of things to come however as he came round for the 2nd time in the lead and starting to pull away. At the flag Randall was over half a lap ahead of the field to take a superb win, Daniel Thackery (1st restricted) came home 2nd ahead of Rory Brodie (2nd restricted) 3rd, Peter Horman who had travelled from Jersey finished 4th and Robin Shute (3rd restricted) 5th.

SENIOR ROTAX

The First corner of the final saw a multiple kart crash that ended the hopes of both Nick Phipps and Gordon Chennery who had started on the front row of the grid. Jason Baker took full advantage of this to take the win well clear of Julian Warner 2nd, Oliver Tucker 3rd, David Adams 4th, Carl Hunnibell 5th and David Beckenham 6th. 1st restricted went to Mark Bowen in 10th place.

SENIOR TKM

From the lights Stuart Jiggins took the lead with Jason Thurlow in hot pursuit. On lap 4 Thurlow found a way past and took no time in opening up a handy lead, but it all went wrong on lap 11 when a mechanical failure ended his race and what would have been a great win for the novice driver. Meanwhile Dan Bramham had got passed Jiggins and took the win, Jiggins finished 2nd with Andrew Aguda 3rd.

GENTLEMANS ROTAX CHALLENGE

After the first heat it was debatable whether there were any gentlemen in this challenge, although things did calm down and some great racing took place. The final saw John Beckenham just hold off Melvin Francis to take the win with Francis well clear in 2nd. Dannie Pennell took 3rd, Darren Hicks 4th, Tony Cowlem 5th and Tom Hudson 6th.

GEARBOX

With 3 different heat winners this looked to be the closest final of the day but from the lights Greg Tripp went away from the field to take a very comfortable victory.  Howard Bennett tried hard to maintain his 2nd place but on lap 7 Richard 'Willy' Weavers got the better of him and pulled away to take the runners up spot. Bennett finished 3rd with David Stephen 4th, coming out on top after a race long battle against Jonathon Weavers 5th.
