BECCLES & DISTRICT KART CLUB

CLUB MEETING 5th May 2003

The second round of the 2003 summer championships plus a round of the popular Gentleman's Rotax Max challenge were held at Ellough on 5th May.

COMER CADET / HONDA CADET / WTP CADET

Seventeen Comer, WTP & Honda cadet karts starting the first final of the day.  With Comer cadets at the front of the grid, the race began with a trio of drivers get off to flying start. Rhys Malyon, Alex Widdrington and Cassey Watson all competing for the lead.  Alex in taking a tighter line at the first corner on lap five powered past Rhys to claim the lead.  Cassey, being pushed by the chasing pack also passed Rhys to take second place.  Rhys responding to the challenge on the next lap, regained the position.  At the chequered flag, Alex Widdrington won by a deserved five metre margin.  Rhys Malyon retaining his 2nd place with Cassey Watson close behind in 3rd.  Oliver Hodges with another consistent drive finishing in 4th place just ahead of Reece Ducmmun in 6th.  First restricted trophy going to Craig Pollard, with second restricted place going to Clinton Bridge.
The Honda cadet class was won by Daniel Fisher. Continuing his winning streak in this class, Daniel driving well through the Comer cadets, claimed the first place overall and the marshal's Driver of the Day trophy. Bobby Griffin finishing well in 2nd spot.
The WTP cadet class starting from the back of the grid, saw Thomas Stanway receive the chequered flag in front of Oliver Hindle.  Jordan Waters coming home in 3rd place.

MINIMAX

Eight starters lined up for the MiniMax final.  Rupert Svendson-Cook leading away from the lights closely followed by Nicholas Wones and Oliver Walker.  The trio pulling out a slight lead over the rest of the pack.  Nicholas, waiting for an opening, passed Rupert on the double apex corner to take the lead, which he maintained to the finish.  The cheers from his family were allegedly heard in Beccles!  Despite his best efforts, Rupert had to settle for 2nd place.  Luke Branch claiming 3rd spot with Gary Henderson-Keirle in 4th position.  Daniel Laddiman in 5th ahead of Aston Baker in 6th.

JUNIOR TKM

The Junior TKM final was contested by a good size field of thirteen karts.  Close racing action from Ashley Ruggles, Jamie Bardwell and Miles Crowther, provided the crowd with something to cheer about.  Three laps from the end, Ashley getting the better of Jamie to record a well deserved win.  Jamie Bardwell coming home in 2nd place ahead of Danny Fiske in 3rd.  Miles Crowther in 4th spot just in front of Tristam Macro in 5th.  The 1st restricted trophy going to Thomas Crowther.

JUNIOR TKM INTERMEDIATE

The Junior Intermediate TKM final saw Adam Blackmore go straight into the lead from the green light ahead of Ben Conner. Ben, to his credit, refused to give in and pushed Adam all the way to the finish flag to claim the runners-up position. Benjamin Firbank passing Tom Brown on the last lap to get 3rd place. 1st restricted trophy and 6th overall going to Bradley Roberts.

JUNIOR ROTAX MAX

With the Junior Rotax class gaining popularity, it was no surprise to see a quality field of eleven karts race away from the green light.  Andrew and Mark Cole dicing with local drivers Rory Broadie and Robin Shute.  Andrew keeping in front for several laps before Mark squeezed past to take the lead, fending off Andrew to take the victory.  Billy Wells finishing a close 3rd with Rory Broadie recording a 4th place.  Leyton Nisbett receiving the 1st restricted trophy.

SENIOR ROTAX MAX / SENIOR TKM 4 STROKE

A grid of nineteen Rotax karts and three TKM 4 strokes at the back started the Senior Rotax / Senior TKM final.  Pole man Gordon Chenery beating Jason Baker to the first corner, closely followed by Nick Phipps and Julian Warner.  Accident damage forcing Julian back down the field, allowing Oliver Tucker and Kevin Bishop to catch up to the leaders.  James Lemmon and Carl Hunnibell fighting for 6th place.  Gordon, once again proving more than a match for Jason, kept his advantage to take the flag. Jason Baker in 2nd holding off Nick Phipps for 3rd.  Kevin Bishop, making the most of a slight collision between Oliver Tucker and a back marker two laps from the end, came home in 4th.  Oliver recovered his ground to keep 5th spot with James Lemmon in 6th.
The Senior TKM race was won by Wayne Close, followed home by his brother Lee.  Lee getting the restricted trophy.

DADSON GENTLEMAN'S ROTAX CHALLENGE

Another popular race series, with drivers coming from counties such as Kent and Surrey to race at Ellough.  Racing got underway with Winston Bent gaining an early advantage over Nigel Ward and Melvin Francis.  Problems for Nigel on lap two saw Melvin go into 2nd place with Kevin Otway moving up to 3rd.  By lap nine, Kevin had dropped down the field with Andy Kemp challenging Melvin for 2nd spot.  Winston Bent staying ahead of the battles, collected a deserved victory with Mark Grady coming through the field to take the 2nd place.  Andy Kemp coming home in 3rd while Graham Fagg had fought his way up the field to gain 4th place.  Derek Bjerved-Eades finishing in 5th just ahead of Mark Dunne in 6th.
