CLUB MEETING 1st APRIL 2002

CADET

Krishan Padhiar led the cadets away with Toby Rogers and Nick Wones in hot pursuit, Rogers nipped past Wones on lap 2 and opened up a gap on the chasing pack although a mistake let Padhiar get away and the pack to close right up again. Rogers was finding the going tough as firstly Jack Delaney then Wones and Craig Boyd slipped past. Padhiar had an fairly uneventful race at the front as he took the chequered flag for a fine victory with Boyd coming through for 2nd ahead of Wones 3rd, Delaney 4th, Rogers 5th and Joe Boullen 6th. 1st restricted went to Ben Sampson in 11th with Oliver Hodgson 2nd in 14th, Craig Day 3rd in 15th and Jake Wenham 4th in 16th.

HONDA & WTP CADET

Chris Kneller started from the front of the cadet grid and was never troubled as he pulled away for the win in his Honda while in the WTP Jake Baker and Nicholas Lucas had a tough battle with Baker coming out on top for the win.

JUNIOR TKM

22 Junior TKMs took to the grid for the final but nobody had any answer to the blistering pace of Danny Fiske, only Dean Hill and William Reed stayed in touch with him but were unable to mount a challenge as he went on to take the win. On the final lap Reed pushed it a little too hard and spun out leaving Hill to take 2nd with Ashley Ruggles coming through for 3rd, Matt Drew 4th, Peter Hargreaves 5th and Tommy Eustace 6th. 1st restricted went to Jamie Bardwell in 7th place with Stuart McClinton 2nd in 8th, Ashley Beales 3rd in 9th and Benjamin Firbank 4th in 11th.

JUNIOR TKM INTERMEDIATE & ROTAX

The Rotax started from the front of the grid and it was Niraj Gorshia who jumped straight into the lead ahead of Clark Randall and Michael Hume. Gorshia and Randall pulled clear of Hume and on lap 5 Randall overtook Gorshia and pulled away to take an easy victory. Gorshia finished a distant 2nd with Hume 3rd. In the Intermediates it was James Blyth who pulled away to take a comfortable win over Ruth Senior 2nd, Adam Slater 3rd, Daniel Laddiman (1st restricted) 4th, Reece Broady 5th and Dan Bramham 6th. Sarah Freeman was 2nd restricted in 7th place. Jamie Fordham was 1st in the Yamaha class.

SENIOR ROTAX & SENIOR OPEN

From the lights Damien Murray led and slowly started to open up a lead on David Adams in 2nd,and Gavin Petty in 3rd, although the gap soon closed as Adam Baker roared through the field and into 2nd on lap 7. However catching was one thing but some great defensive driving by Murray saw him take the win, Baker in his attempt to get past lost out to Petty on the final lap to finish 3rd, Adams came home 4th, Stuart Weavers 5th and Tony Cowlam rounding out the top 6. James Lemmon 1st in 9th place and Barry Obey 2nd in 13th. With Jason Baker unable to start the final due to mechanical problems on the grid Kevin Bishop had no competition in the opens to take the win although he did come from the back of the Rotax up to 5th overall with some great driving.

SENIOR TKM & LEOPARDS

The Leopards started at the front of the grid and all race were never more than a few lengths apart, on the final lap they lapped the TKMs showing just how fast this formula is. Brian Lely took the win with Kevin Silcock 2nd. The TKMs had a great scrap at the front until the final lap when Jason Thurlow who had actually led for a while got caught up while being lapped by the Leopards and spun out of contention. This left Stuart Jiggins to take the race win ahead of Nathan Roberts 2nd with Thurlow coming in 3rd and Andrew Aguda 4th.

GEARBOX

After some brilliant driving in the heats to take pole for the final David Stephen lost his advantage going from 1st to last after a bogging down on the line. This allowed Jonathon Weavers to take the lead and although he came under pressure from First brother Richard and then David Stephen managed to hold on for a very well deserved win, Richard Weavers managed to get the better of Stephen 3rd, for 2nd place with Tripp 4th and Peter Fox 5th.

Graham Salmon
